About Me

Learn tin whistle Pete Purvis
Hi, I have created this website in the hope to make quality tin whistle lessons available to anyone living anywhere at a price everyone can afford. Most people don’t have the luxury of living down the road from an tin whistle instructor. I'm hoping my online lessons will make it seem like you have a real life tin whistle instructor in your home.

Now a little about me.... I grew up in the small village of Merrickville, located in the Ottawa Valley, Canada -- An area famous for its fiddle players, step dancing and maple syrup.

I began playing the Highland pipes at the age of 12 and began playing the Uilleann pipes and Irish whistle soon there after. Growing up, I was given the great opportunities to play with some of Canada's finest pipe bands and receive lessons tin whistle/uilleann pipe lessons from Canadas best. It was these lessons from elite pipers and whistle players at a very young age that helped to mold him into the playerI am today.

I joined Gaelic Storm in 2004 and have since recorded 2 DVDs and 9 Albums with the band, 8 of which were #1 in World music on the Billboard charts. Gaelic Storm has earned a reputation as one of the world-music scene’s preeminent Celtic bands. The group’s ability to deftly incorporate a rock sensibility into their sound affords them rare crossover appeal. In recent years, they’ve performed on the same bill with acts, ranging from Zac Brown Band to Emmylou Harris, at events as varied as the Telluride Bluegrass Festival to Milwaukee’s Summer Fest.

One day while on a long tour with Gaelic Storm I realized I was really beginning to miss teaching music. I use to teach a lot before I was always traveling with the band and wanted to give it another try so I decided to give these online lessons a try.  Enjoy!
