Lesson 11: Tin Whistle High D and 8th Notes
Watch the video below to learn to play High D on the tin whistle and then try the exercises below. Take your time and double check to make sure you are playing each note correctly before moving on to the next lesson. You will notice there are 2 different ways to play High D, I encourage you to play the D with the top hole uncovered, it's a nice tone and allows you to play finger vibrato on the note as well.
High D Exercise
Now that you know 2 different ways to play a High D try them both in the exercise below and see which one comes more comfortably.
D-C#-B-A-G-F#-E-D Exercise
As I mentioned in an earlier lessons, 8th notes are held half as long as quarter notes. Listen to the exercise below to see exactly what I mean. You should also notice I tongue many of the shorter notes in bars 5 and 7, this makes it easier and makes your whistle squeak less.
Eighth notes are very common in tunes so make sure you get use to playing them before moving on to the next lesson.
