Lesson 8: Ascending Tin Whistle Cuts

Cuts or as they are sometimes refereed to as grace notes are used for more than just separating notes. They are used to help draw attention to specific notes. Ascending cuts are a little harder than normal cuts because you will be raising multiple fingers at the same time. When you first attempt this it will likely seem confusing, but don't worry soon enough it will become second nature. Make sure to go about these exercises slow in-order to do them correctly and resist the temptation to tense up while learning them properly. I have not included ascending cuts on C or C#. There is a way to do them but it's both tricky and sounds awful so I have decided not to include them in these lessons. Also, remember I'm going to show you the way I do ascending cuts. Different people use different methods but I feel this is the easiest and best way to learn them.

Ascending Cuts Exercise
Remember to take your time with this exercise above. If you can't do it properly you will never be able to play the next section. All right you have now completed all of the ascending cuts and exercises. Take a breath, that was hard.
